  1. My name is Rob, and I teach ESL in Korea. My school's name is Kyungnam Institute of Technology, or KIT for short. I teach English conversation and culture to freshmen and sophomores who are majoring in other subjects. I use Blogger to deliver information and handouts to my students, and occasionally use a computer and projector in class, though some of my classrooms do not have this technology. I am taking this class because I hope to expand into other online tools to deliver content, collect feedback, and make my students more comfortable with English. I see them at most once a week, so communication between class times is important. I hope to become better at it, and plan to get more tools to do so from this class. The most interesting fact about me is that I like being the foreigner. Living overseas is challenging and fun in a way that life in the USA never was for me.

  2. Hello all! My name is Elena and I am a high school French teacher in Topeka, KS. I am currently working as an au pair in France for the summer; the little girl attends a bilingual school and her parents wanted a native English speaker to help with her retention of the English she's learned so far. It's nice for me to be able to bring out my real-world French instead of just classroom talk, and I can't complain about hanging out poolside in southern France. In my class, we use YouTube frequently, as well as computer carts (I love Quizlet as a vocabulary practice tool) and iPad carts (my students made iMovies for their final projects) sprinkled in. I don't currently have any routine technology built into our classroom structure, but I am supposed to have an iPad cart for my specific use starting this school year, so I'm hoping to change that. That's one of the reasons I tool this class; I'm always looking for new ways to make my classroom authentic and meaningful in a real-world sense, and I think technology is a great way to do that. I'm hoping to learn about tools that can serve as everyday activities as well as create more in-depth projects or activities. One last fact about me is that I only brought my iPad, not my actual laptop with me to France because I packed lightly. I know iPads can't do everything computers can, but I am looking forward to better understanding their capabilities and limits as I get ready to use them more in my own classroom.

  3. Hello everyone! My name is Mallory Pendleton. I teach 5th grade at Lindbergh Elementary in Kansas City, Kansas. In our classroom, we have a classroom set of laptops that students typically use daily. Additionally, students use and interact daily with the Smartboard and ELMO (projector). I have a class website setup, but have not yet utilized it during the school year. I took this course as an elective for the MSSL program at Baker, in hopes to learn more about technology integration and to find self-motivation to use the classroom webpage that I started (guilty confession). During this course, I plan to learn about a variety of ways to utilize technology to enhance student growth. Lastly, something interesting about me is that I have a three-year-old daughter and four “step-children”. Soon, we will be adding to our family, I am 36 weeks pregnant, at some point during this course, I will be having a baby boy ☺!!!

  4. My name is Chelsea Carver. I teach math at Goddard High School. I have two sons ages nine and ten whose names are Benjamin and Blake. In my classroom I use projectors for notes, computers for projects and activities, and hope to get Ipads in the future if our budget allows. I am taking this course to better my understanding on how to use technology in my classroom. I hope to get several ideas on how to use technology to better my students understanding of key concepts.

  5. My name is Shari. I am an Autism Behavior Specialist for Special Education students in Early Childhood in the Shawnee Mission School district in Kansas. I use an iPad, iPhone and iMac for creating video models for students as well as for educational activities with my students. I also use SharePoint to keep our Autism Behavior web page up to date. I took this class because I felt it would give me an overview of current technology being used in educational environments. My goal is to become an elementary school principal so I want to learn as much as possible about how I can help my staff utilize technology to help students be more successful, in addition to being knowledgeable and up to date on the latest technology.

  7. My name is Kristen and I teach 8th grade social studies at Heritage Middle School in Liberty, Missouri. This school year will be my 6th year of teaching. Something interesting about me is that in addition to taking this class this summer, my husband and I are completing some home renovations so needless to say it has been a very busy summer. As far as technology in my classroom I use computers on a pretty regular basis to research, create presentations (using Prezi, ThingLink, Google presentation), play interactive games (iCivics, Mission-US), and during the election last year I used Twitter to have my students tweet during the presidential debates. I am taking this class because my school district is moving to one-to-one at the middle level beginning next school year and I want to be as prepared as possible for the best ways to incorporate technology on a daily basis both inside and outside the classroom. From this class, I plan on getting new information about effective ways to incorporate technology into my classroom to increase engagement and understanding as well as ways to help my students become more technology savvy in a world that is becoming more and more technology reliant. I am looking forward to what this class has to offer!

    1. Hi Kristen! I live in Liberty! One of my daughters will be in 8th grade this year, but at Discovery Middle. Hope your year goes great with all the new transitions! Julie

    2. What a neat coincidence! Too bad I won't get to have her :( Things are definitely going to be different this year, but I think the transition will be the best thing for Liberty in the long run!

  8. My name is Kyle and I teach 10th grade ELA in Overland Park, Kansas. A couple interesting facts about myself are that I love backpacking, riding my bike, and I am a strict vegetarian. I have used a classroom blog frequently over the past four or five years and have found it to be very useful. Other than the school webpage, I have created presentations using Prezi, PowerPoint, etc.; however, I have not found anything that I could not do without. This is precisely why I have taken this class. I am sure that there are many tools out there that would help me to reach my students in different ways as well as help my classroom to run more efficiently. I also know that, as teachers, we all complain about not getting enough time to learn about what else is out there for us to use. What better way than to take a class and make time to explore? I hope to find new tools, and learn how to best use these tools, as well as increase the depth of understanding I have about what these tools can do for me and my students.

  10. My name is Sarah and I teach 2nd grade at Siegrist Elementary in Platte City, Mo. I love teaching second grade and I enjoy working at the my school. An interesting fact about myself is that I graduated with a minor in Deaf Studies from Northwest Missouri State. While accomplishing this minor I was able to learn about the deaf culture as well as learn the complex language of sign. The technology I use in my classroom is the teacher and student computers. The student computers are used for the students to take their Accelerated Reader test every morning. I also use the student computers for the students to take their level assessments. I am also fortunate to have and use a Smartboard in my classroom. I use the Smartboard to teach whole group, small group, and for one-on-one instruction. I also have a Document Camera in my classroom that is hooked up to the Smartboard. I love my Doc Camera because it gives me the chance to model activities for my student to easily see. The Doc Camera is a great tool to use in whole group instruction because it gives all students the opportunity to see the activities at once. I took this class so that I can become more comfortable and creative in my use of technology in my classroom. I want to use technology to differentiate instruction so that I am able to reach all students needs. In starting this class I am planning on getting resources and information on how to integrated technology easily into my classroom. I am planning on finding ways to put technology in my classroom to reach students needs on their level.

  11. My name is Brett and I teach 7th grade Geography/Kansas History at California Trail Middle School in the Olathe School District. Something that is probably interesting about me is that I do enjoy teaching Kansas History because I believe that it is a struggle for kids to become interested in learning about Kansas History, so it is my goal to make it fun and interesting for them. We use the internet, Microsoft Word and Power Point in the classroom. There is also a district paid website where I upload materials and daily events onto a website for students to access while they are at home. Two reasons why I want to take this class; first I need to credits to graduate, second I am interested in implementing more technology in my classroom. I have done some research on it in my previous classes and I would like to continue that with this class. I want to be able to go back to school in August with something for the students. If it is just one thing that I can integrate into my classes then I will consider that a success.

  12. Hello everyone! My name is Jen and I teach middle school mathematics. I taught 6th grade math for three years at Northwest Middle School in Kansas City Kansas Public Schools and recently just moved to Chicago and will soon be teaching in Chicago Public Schools. At my school in Kansas City I used my Elmo on a daily basis as well as a MacBook Air to keep track of all of my student data. My students did have access to Ipads from time to time, however, I would like to learn more about the math applications we can use in the classroom. At my new school in Chicago I will have a Smartboard which I am very excited about learning how to use. I chose to take this course because I want to learn more about all of the tools I can utilize in my classroom to better differentiate instruction. Something interesting about me is that I joined in AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps after college for a year and worked in several schools in California and Mississippi. I am looking forward to this course!

  13. My name is Amanda. I teach English 9 and PreAP English 9 in De Soto, Kansas. In my classroom, we use my laptop and a projector daily and also have laptop carts and labs that can be signed up for that we use pretty frequently. Students have at-home and in-class access to all Microsoft Office products, school email, my classroom website, Skyward (which has similar assignment posting and quiz functions to Moodle), and Inspiration. I have my students use Prezi and have just started having them use toondoo.com and goanimate.com. I took this class because I never seem to have enough time in the day to truly explore technology on my own and to create new things for my classroom during the school year. People will always mention great new tools to me, but then I never get to actually try them out. I want the chance to do that. In addition to getting that time from this class, I also plan to get free tech ideas out of this class. Our school cannot afford to buy us all iPads and Smartboards and document cameras right now and no one has written the magic grant yet, so we do a lot of sharing. Therefore, I need to have lessons that keep my students using technology but can be accomplished without the expenisive stuff. Something interesting about me...I teach in the same room I took junior Honors English in when I was in high school.

  14. My name is Kelli, and I teach sixth grade English/language arts at Harrisonville Middle School in Harrisonville, MO. An interesting fact about me is that I am an extreme couponer. I rarely pay full price for anything, and I probably have enough shampoo to last my family 20 years because it was pretty much free. I have a projector and computer in my classroom, so I show Power Point presentations, videos from youtube.com, and articles on the projector. Also, I have clickers that I use with students for quick assessments. My school only has one computer lab for sixth grade use, so when it's available I try to take my students to work on Study Island, research, or to publish writing. I am taking this class to finish my elective credits for the master's program. I hope to learn more instructional activities to do with technology.

  15. Hi Class! My name is Courtney and I am a high school French teacher at Blue Valley West High School in Overland Park, KS. I studied abroad in Angers, France during college and my husband and I even got engaged there! In my classroom, I use a document camera, an EIKI projector, and a computer. As far as other technology, I have used Splice (an app available on iPhones) to help students create short movies, I use various websites (conjugjemos and quizlet) to help students practice vocabulary and grammar, PowerPoints, youtube, and a world language lab. Our lab has a program where students can type/chat with eachother and in large groups. I took this class to fulfill a technology credit as I am working on my Master's Degree in School Leadership. I hope to gain new tools to energize my own teaching and my students' engagement and learning.

  16. My name is Katie, and I am a fifth grade teacher at St. Mary Catholic School in Derby, Kansas. An interesting fact about me is that I am 30 weeks pregnant with my first child. We will be welcoming a baby boy at the end of September. In my classroom, we have several student computers that the students use daily to take Accelerated Reader Tests, Study Island, and other math related programs. I am fortunate to have a Promethean board in my classroom. I also have an Elmo in my classroom that I use daily. There is a computer lab that is available for the whole school which has about 40 computers in it. The classroom teachers are responsible for teaching technology to the students. I took this class as an elective towards the Master’s Program and to learn about more opportunities to integrate technology into my classroom. I hope to learn different ways to incorporate technology into my classroom and hopefully ways to teach my students technology.

  17. My name is Mallory, teach Family and Consumer sciences at Oregon Trail Middle School in Olathe Kansas. An interesting fact about me would be that I spend my summers living at Table Rock Lake with my parents. Technology that is used in my class room is remote clickers, projector, my students to a few web quests throughout the year. I have chosen to take this class because as a teacher I feel as though it is important to constantly be incorporating new technology into my class room. I hope by taking this class I am able to incorporate more technology into my FACS curriculum and possibly walking into a new school year with new lesson plans or lesson plan ideas.

  18. Hello, my name is Sara. Currently I am the district behavior specialist for the DeSoto School District in DeSoto, KS. In the fall I will be starting my 16th year as an educator. During those years I have been a special education resource teacher, general education classroom teacher, reading and math specialist, elementary behavior specialist and currently I serve students ages pre-k through 18-21 on a consultative basis. In my current position I am most interested in learning a variety of ways to help students with behavioral and emotional challenges access the curriculum using technology. I will end with my interesting (or maybe not so interesting) facts; I am the proud wife of a firefighter, devoted mother to two girls ages 10 and 6, and I bleed crimson and blue. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

  19. My name is Mindy and I am the Curriculum and Instructional Specialist for Bradley Elementary at Fort Leavenworth. Prior to coming to Fort Leavenworth I served as a School Improvement and Technology Integration Specialist for Greenbush. An interesting fact about me is I am a complete beach lover - the sand, the shells, the waves.... this is ironic since I have been in Kansas all of my life. I assist teacher in utilizing various technology resources: iPads, SMARTBoards, Wii, Xbox Kinect, document cameras, media production (green screens), and Web resources. I currently have a MAED from Baker and am working on my MSSL and need the hours to transfer ;) However, I love technology and love to learn new things to assist my teachers.

  20. Hello! My name is Teresa. I teach 7/8 grade Special Education at Mid-Buchanan Jr/Sr High School in Faucett, MO. Previously, I taught 7th grade math in Leavenworth, KS for seven years. This school year will be my 19th year of teaching. An interesting fact about me is that I love to read, I guess that is why I have every Danielle Steel book in hardback. Also, I love playing volleyball every weekend with family and friends. The technology I use in my classroom is the teacher and student computers. I also use the Smartboard to teach small group instruction. The students and staff have Google doc accounts were we can create and share documents. I took this course as an elective for the MSSL program at Baker. I plan to learn more about technology that will be useful in my classroom to enhance student growth. I also want to take all this information that I learn back to my colleagues.

  21. Hello! My name is Katie and I teach 2nd grade in the Raytown School District. I graduated from UMKC in spring of 2012, so this will be my 2nd year of teaching! One interesting fact about myself is I'm obsessed with Disney! My family and I recently took a trip to Disneyland over spring break. I currently don't use a lot of technology in my classroom due to lack of resources. However, rumor is we will be piloting ipads in 2nd grade this year for the district. I'm very excited about this! I took this class to find ways to implement technology into my classroom. I hope to find a lot of great resources I can begin using right away!

  22. My name is Katherine. I teach 5th grade in Salina, KS. One interesting fact about me is that I love penguins. I currently use a smart board and laptops in my classroom. I do not have the laptops all of the time because we share them across the grade. I took this class to get ideas on how to use technology more in the classroom. I plan on getting ideas on how to have my students use more technology in the classroom.

In my classroom I use a SMARTboard, projector, and I'm trying to get more into using my airliner. I'm taking this class as a credit for my Educational Leadership degree, and I'm really hoping I will learn about more technology tools I can use every day in my classroom.

  24. My name is Nicole and I teach kindergarten in the Center School District. An interesting fact about me is that I got married in September of 2012. The main technology I use in my classroom is my SMART board. We also have three classroom computers, and a class Ipad mini. The K & 1 rooms in my building are also equipped with a sound system and microphone. This allows me to wear the microphone necklace and walk around the room and continue teaching. Lastly, and what seems to be the least “tech savvy” is our listening center. The students are able to access the CD player to listen to books on CD. I took this class because I am hoping to better utilize the technology available to me. My class this past year accessed the school computer lab only twice. I want to be able to foster the students learning in technology and create a really good foundation for them to build on as they get older. I plan on not only getting (and hopefully giving) resources to use, but also a better idea of how to promote technology in my class. I also am excited to share and receive ideas with my classmates.

  25. My name is Sean and I teach K-5 P.E. for USD 402 in Augusta KS. An interesting fact about me is that I have 7 brothers and sisters ranging in age from 12-30. The main technology that I use in my classroom would be a projector and a laptop for my health lessons as well as the music I play through the gym sound system with my ipad. I took this class so that I could become more comfortable with technology not only as a teacher but also when I become an administrator. I want to be able to benifit my students in any way I can and I hope to promote technology because students can relate to technology more now than in the past.

  29. Hi I am Laura, I teach 3rd grade at Barry School in the Platte County School District. This is in the northern part of Kansas City, Missouri. It basically covers the Kansas City Airport and surrounding area. I am currently planning a wedding as well as building a new home. Talk about multi-tasking. In the classroom, I use several components of technology. I have a SMARTboard that is used daily to teach lessons and provide interactive activities for students. I use a document camera daily. It is great for math work and teaching kids how to edit a paper. I also am provided a i-Pad which is wirelessly connected to my SMARTboard. This provides opportunity for me to move throughout the classroom and teach without having my back turned.
I am taking this course because it is required by my degree program and it sounded interesting to me. I know technology is in constant change and what better way to learn it by doing it! I hope to learn some new ideas to freshen my lessons and engage our students technology driven minds.

I want to finish this class and be Technologically Confident in my classroom!

  31. Hello everyone! My name is Andrew, and I’m currently not teaching this semester. I just recently finished my teaching certification requirements through Baker’s Restricted Licensure Program, and I have not found a place to teach yet. An interesting fact about me is that I have coached basketball for the last three years at Jefferson West High School where I have been the head coach for the last two years. Basketball is huge for me, and I have found a love for coaching! I don’t currently have a class, but I have had experience using YouTube, Edmodo, Prezi, Microsoft Office applications, and Apple applications such as iTunes, iMovie, etc. I took this class, because I am a Business Education teacher, and I love technology. I wanted to see all the various ways that technology can be incorporated in the classroom to help my students learn “real-world” tools. I plan to take away from this class a variety of technology tools and their specific application in the classroom.

  32. Hello everyone, I'm Julie, and I am a Math Instructional Coach/Specialist in the Independence, MO School District, for grades 6-12. In my work I support the teachers in 8 buildings. I have been in this position for 5 years, and prior to that I taught high school and middle school math for 10 years in Indpendence, Kansas City KS, and Columbia, MO. Just in the last few weeks I started my own business in re-purposing furniture, home decor and making hand-crafts, named Midland Trail Revival; the success remains to be seen!! In my classrooms and in my work with teachers I use as much technology as possible! I constantly promote using tech and train teachers to use many things. Right now in my job, I do website creation for curriculum using concrete5, use various testing softwares (Acuity,Pearson), excel, prezi and other presentation options, googledocs and the google "package," Geogebra, powerpoint and voice over presentations, SMART boards and notebook, Senteo clickers, obviously the Microsoft Office suite, NTCM Core Math Tools, LCD projectors, graphing calculators, iPads, Laptops, and the list goes on. I generally am open to using anything and everything that makes good sense to use and promote. I am taking this class to get more ideas of ways to use (and teach) technology in the classroom. Hopefully, that's exactly what I'll get out of the class :)

I have the opportunity to access a large variety of technology in my classroom, which is a computer lab. I am starting my third year of teaching and my desire is to learn all that I can to become the best teacher I can. I am taking this class to gain some additional tools to become more effective in teaching my students. My wife and our four children moved to Kansas from Oklahoma three years ago when I started teaching and coaching. This was a career change for me. I feel I know the content that I teach, but I am earning my master’s degree in teaching to keep working on both the technical and practical aspects of actually teaching the students the content and skills I was hired to teach.

  38. A late hello to everyone! My name is Amy and I teach 7th grade biology at Wichita Collegiate Middle School. I have been teaching for 15 years and this past year was our first year as a "laptop" school where every student from 5th-12th grade has their own laptop. While I felt like I learned a ton by having to incorporate technology into my normal curriculum, I am still wanting to use the laptops in new and innovative ways. I am hoping a I can get something out of this class that will "Wow" my students and the rest of my faculty! As for me, I am from Wichita, Kansas, graduated from Texas A&M University, have two VERY ACTIVE children whom this summer I am taxiing all over town each day to different activities! When I am not being a mom, I run, bike, and swim!

  39. Another late hello from a different Amy! This Amy will be teaching second grade at Meadow Lane Elementary in the Olathe School District. For the past couple of years I have taught fifth grade in the DeSoto School District using a project based learning approach where technology was a major focus. Although my district's technology basically consisted of laptops, my students have created podcasts and documentaries using Audacity and Microsoft Moviemaker. We have Skyped with people all over the world. We created presentations using Slide Rocket, Prezi, Go Animate, Extranormal, Animoto and Smore. We have also done a lot with generating QR codes, writing with Story Bird, Taxedo/Wordle and Blabberize. We also had a class wiki and a student created website using Weebly. I tried Edmodo, but didn't love it. I love Symbaloo and Edcanvas. An interesting fact about me....I am married and have four kids, two dogs, a guinea pig, a fish, and a tarantula-yes, a tarantula. :) Our lives are always crazy and adventurous, but I love every single minute of it! I am taking this course because I am always looking for new and exciting ways to integrate technology into my classroom. I am currently pursuing a Master's in School Leadership and would love to learn about other resources that can be used to enrich instruction.

I hope to learn new applications, web designs, and uses of technology to increase student engagement. One interesting fact about me; I just returned from the Safe & Civil Schools Conference held in Portland, Oregon. It was amazing!
